An Tobar, the Tobermory Arts Centre, showcases the work of selected artists and makers from throughout Argyll with the Argyll Boxed Collection, which opens to the public on Saturday 25th November. The exhibition brings together 28 individual pieces, each created in a 12”x12”x6” framed box and forming a collection that reflects the range of professional practice in Argyll.
The Argyll Boxed Collection opens in conjunction with An Tobar’s Artists and Makers Market 2006, which offers an opportunity to purchase from 30 professional artists and makers. The exhibition and market is kindly sponsored by Island Bakery Organics, who will announce the winner of the £300 Argyll Boxed Collection purchase prize during the Artists & Makers Market.
The Argyll Boxed Collection follows on from An Tobar’s Island Boxed Collection which was shown in 2005 and brought together the work of artists and makers from Mull & Iona. Lee Hendrick, Visual Arts and Crafts Officer at An Tobar hopes to tour this new, showcase exhibition to Edinburgh in 2007. “ An Tobar is delighted to be presenting this impressive exhibition which demonstrates the wealth of talent within Argyll ” says Lee.
This is the final exhibition in An Tobar’s Visual Arts and Crafts programme for 2006 which brings contemporary arts to island audiences. With such a unique collection of work from some of Argyll’s leading artists, art lovers may be further tempted to take one home thanks to An Tobar’s membership of the Scottish Arts Council’s ‘Own Art’ scheme which offers interest-free loans for the purchase of original art work.
