New dance and theatre work touring across Scotland this autumn

This autumn, benchtours, Tabula Rasa Dance Company and the Curve Foundation Dance Company will all be touring across Scotland with brand new and exciting work.

The Curve Foundation Dance Company will present the UK Première of Under the Skin by Portuguese choreographer Rui Lopes Graça and a new piece by Ross Cooper, alongside Jonathan Watkins’s gorgeous Beyond Prejudice. They will be performing at the Brunton Theatre, Musselburgh on 20 and 21 October and The MacRobert in Stirling on 10 November, before embarking on a larger tour in the spring. www.curvefoundation.org  for details.

Under the artistic directorship of Ross Cooper, the company has become in the last few years one of the leading lights in Scottish contemporary dance, presenting a mix of new choreographies by emerging choreographers as well as rarely seen classics by such masters as Peter Darrell and Merce Cunningham alongside work by Cooper himself.

benchtours will be touring with their new production of Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage. This dark and bitingly funny play on man’s unique inhumanity probes at the heart of the human impact of our world at war. Mother Courage follows benchtours’ fantastically successful and acclaimed production of Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle and will open at the Brunton Theatre on 27 October before touring across Scotland until 25 November.

Marking the 50th anniversary of Brecht's death, Mother Courage is the latest in a succession of acclaimed European classics from benchtours, and will be directed by Peter Clerke with live music by Steve Kettley of Salsa Celtica. www.benchtours.com  for more information.

Tabula Rasa Dance Company presents The Winter Room, an intimate dance theatre performance choreographed and performed by Claire Pençak and featuring an exciting new score by Glasgow-based composer Malcolm Lindsay. The Winter Room will be opening in Wick on 28 October before touring across Scotland, with the final dates at Tramway in Glasgow on 23 and 24 November.

Tabula Rasa’s work has been described by the press as poetic and atmospheric and this latest work will not disappoint: with stage design by Brian Hartley and lighting by Graeme Gardner.
