Beauly’s Phipps Hall is set to be visited by acclaimed Canadian traditional trio Genticorum on Wednesday 30 August 2006 at 8pm.
Following in the steps of pioneers Bottine Souriante, the group is fast becoming one of the most sought-after proponents of Québécois musical culture internationally.
Genticorum incorporate the dynamism of today’s North American and European folk cultures into their music, weaving wooden flute, fiddle, acoustic guitar, jaw harp, bass, foot percussion with strong vocal harmonies, to create a wonderfully rhythmic and distinctive sound.
Their line-up features Alexandre de Grosbois-Garand (wooden flute, electric bass, vocals), Yann Falquet (guitar, feet, vocals) and Pascal Gemme (fiddle, feet, vocals).
Since their debut in 2000, Genticorum has forged a solid place for itself on the folk festival circuit, playing concerts and dances throughout Canada, the US, Australia and New Zealand.
Recently, Genticorum won the Canadian Folk Music Award 2005 in the “Best Ensemble” category for their second album Malins Plaisirs (loosely translated: Devilish Pleasures).
Their songs, with glorious 3 part harmonies, tend to be ribald and amusing. Great music and great fun! Rogue Folk Review
