The Màiri Mhòr Gaelic Song Fellowship for Highland Council would like to invite you to the launch of a brand new and unique collection of Gaelic Song entitled “ The Crunluath Collection”, lyrics written and songs arranged by Gaelic writer and piper, Angus MacPhee from North Kessock. Angus, originally from Harlosh, Skye has written all 52 of these songs to original pipe airs in both Ceòl Mòr and Ceòl Beag styles. This is the first time that words have been set to complete pipe tunes as they are played on the pipes, in particular for the Ceòl Mòr songs and they will prove interesting to both pipers and singers alike. The book is accompanied by a CD of some of the songs, sung by Angus and Fiona Mackenzie, the Màiri Mhòr Gaelic Song Fellow and current Mod Gold Medallist. The book will be launched at 2pm on Saturday 29th July at ‘Pipefest’ in the Town House Inverness. This is an event designed to raise awareness of an interest in piping and pipe music. During the afternoon an exhibition on the world of piping will take place and this will also include illustrated talks on Highland bagpiping, a demonstration of pipe music software and live performances on the small-pipes by Angus Nicolson from Skye. To add to the general pipe music atmosphere of the day, a quartet of young pipers will play outside the Town House during the afternoon. Angus will introduce his Collection, Roderick Balfour, Councillor and Chairman - Education, Culture and Sport , HC, and member of the Gaelic Select Committee will speak on behalf of the Council and Fiona will sing material from the Collection.
