On Tuesday 18th July 2006, Inverness and area Film Fans (IFF!) starts a new chapter in its development, when the first of its regular fortnightly screenings takes place at the Screen Machine, by the Floral Hall at Bught Park, Inverness. The premiere for this notable occasion will be Ingmar Bergman's latest ( and possibly his last ) film, Saraband, which will be shown at 8pm. It follows on from his earlier film, Scenes from a Marriage, which was made three decades earlier, and as the title suggests, is a measured piece in which Marianne (Ullmann) and Johan (Josephson) meet again after thirty years without contact.
"Saraband may well be Bergman's farewell film, but we shouldn't watch it in any spirit of funereal reverence and respect. It is another emotionally intense, expertly crafted Bergman drama: movingly written, beautifully acted and austerely shot."
The enthusiasm of IFF!, which has been showing its own choice of films since late 2004, and now has over 90 members, will be brought together with Eden Court Cinema's professional standards of presentation to give the complete cinema experience - a wonderful way to see a stimulating and enjoyable programme of films from all around the world. All screenings will be open to the public and are included in Eden Court's publicity, but IFF! members get their own advanced Newsletters with information of all the group's film programming, and can also take advantage of preferential entrance rates. Membership is currently £5 per annum and runs from October.
IFF! will be serving refreshments in the foyer of the Floral Hall after the performance. Come over and have coffee etc., and, if you want to, stay on and join in the informal discussion of the film, to swap your thoughts and feelings with everyone else.
