Nigg, Rigs and the Cromarty Firth
20 June 2006

An exhibition of etchings by Bronwen Sleigh will be on show at Cromarty Courthouse, Church St, Cromarty from 24th June – 23rd July 2006.

Bronwen Sleigh has recently completed a 3-month residency at Highland Print Studio, an open-access artists’ studio with facilities for printmaking and digital media.

Bronwen’s artwork explores the relationship between the natural environment and the industrial architecture within it. The Cromarty Firth, therefore, is an ideal location for her to base her latest series of etchings. Some man-made structures are seen as environmentally friendly, others are considered damaging; Bronwen’s work however, is not about making a moral judgement. By playing around with scale, some of her images capture the enormity of these structures, others show just how fragile they are under an immense sky or sweeping landscape.

Bronwen’s residency at Highland Print Studio was funded by the Scottish Arts Council and Highland 2007. During this, she spent half the time developing her own work and half working with pupils at Inver Primary School. She now leaves us to undertake a Masters in Printmaking at the Royal College of Art in London.

The exhibition is open 10am to 5pm.
