Another joint promotion by the Gable End Theatre and Woodwick House in Orkney bring one of the most exciting line-ups from the cutting edge of World Fusion to the islands in the middle of June 2006.
Deva is an instrumental five-piece group who have absorbed many influences and combine an outstanding set of instrumental talents. Their concerts at the Glastonbury Fetival have been sell-outs.
The influences of jazz, rock and Indian style come together in their playing in ways uniquely tuneful and colourful. "Deva's mellifluous notes will soothe, excite and inspire," said BBC 'Asian Life', adding it would be a crime against music not to have them available to the public.
Trevor Warren, who founded Deva out of a series of workshops, is a renowned guitarist.
Neil Craig, on percussion, specializes in tabla playing, both Western and Eastern based.
Chris Garrick, on both acoustic and electric violin, is a charismatic player regarded as one of the foremost exponents of his instruments in Britain.
Peter MacDonald, percussionist, is also a exponent of the Mrdungham (the Indian drum) and recently finished a European tour with the great Ravi Shankar himself.
Jonty Fisher, on bass (acoustic and electric), has worked with Nikki Iles and Don Rendell and composes for his own quintet.
Deva's rivetting music can be heard in concert at the Gable End Theatre on the eve of the St Magnus Festival, Thursday, June 15th 2006, at 8 p.m., and on the following night, Friday, June 16th 2006, at Woodwick House at 8 p.m.
