In partnership with ProjectScotland, Highland 2007 is looking to recruit up to four Highland based people, aged between 16 and 25 years old, to volunteer for a variety of roles within the Highland 2007 team for a year.
The successful applicants will assist the Highland 2007 team in the development and the delivery of the programme of celebrations throughout 2007.
ProjectScotland was established in May 2005 as part of the Scottish Executive’s Volunteering Strategy and aims to give young Scots opportunities to develop key life skills and to improve their life choices through full time volunteering.
The Highland 2007 volunteers will gain experience from a variety of different tasks and across a range of events within each of the different strands of the programme – sport, arts, heritage, language, science and the environment.
Opportunities will be available in marketing and communications, public relations, event and project management, finance and administration. Each young person will be given the choice of volunteering for one specific area or to gain experience over a range of functions.
ProjectScotland will offer volunteers a subsistence allowance to enable them to carry out their commitment, quality assurance to ensure they achieve all they can from their volunteering experience, and a recognised endorsement of their experience.
Fiona Hampton, director of Highland 2007, said: “We are really excited to be working in partnership with ProjectScotland on such a worthwhile and rewarding project. The experience volunteers will get within the Highland 2007 team will be unique. I’m sure the opportunity to be involved in such an exciting event is a dream come true for many young people in the Highlands.
“We are looking for enthusiastic young people with a go-ahead attitude who have excellent communication skills, enthusiasm and creativity. There is likely to be a lot of interest in these opportunities and we look forward to getting the volunteers on board as soon as possible.”
Volunteers will be based in Abertarff House, Church Street, Inverness.
Anyone interested in these opportunities should go to the ProjectScotland website where they can apply for placements directly online at www.projectscotland.co.uk
