The girls aged 9 to 13 worked with local artist Diane Roberts to create the piece during the Easter activities programme run by Education, Culture & Sport. Diane explains: “We took a look at some Celtic knot-work and other designs, and this inspired the circular and intersecting forms and symmetrical tendencies in the individual designs and the final piece of work. The girls liked the idea of producing something which had a particular Scottish Highland character and they enjoyed the research into Celtic design.”
The girls from Inverness have been linked with the eighth grade art class at Herbert Green Middle School in Placerville, California, with whom they will be exchanging artworks. This is just one of hundreds of such exchanges happening across seventy countries as part of this cooperative, grassroots effort. www.globalartproject.org
