Something for everyone at the 28th Glenfarg Folk Feast in April

The 28th Glenfarg Folk Feast takes place over the weekend of 21st-23rd April 2006.

There is something for everybody, Ceilidh dancing, concerts and informal events to suit all ages with singarounds, sessions and competitions taking place in the Glenfarg Hotel and Evening Concerts, a step-dance workshop and a children’s show in the Village Hall.

Impromptu sessions will be happening in various nooks and crannies throughout the weekend, so if organised concerts are not your thing seek out a session, and enjoy yourself.

The weekend kicks off on Friday night with the Grand Ceilidh Dance, Neil and Gail Paterson are supplying the music, so put on your dancing shoes and bring along your own bottle to start the weekend off with what always turns out to be one of the most popular events of the feast. Tickets £7 on the door and entry is from 8pm.

Saturday from 10.45 am –11.45 am  there is a Step-dance workshop in the Village hall with tutors Jim Payne and Fergus O’Byrne entry £5. From 11.30 am – 2 pm there is the first official Singaround in the restaurant of the hotel so bring along your voice, rest those weary feet and join in or just relax and listen to some of the best sining around. Entrance is free.

The first competition begins at 2.30pm with an Original Song Competition with the theme “ Boys and girls come out to play, sing a song to make their day.”  Entrance is £1.00 on the door and all takings, plus donations will go to The Glenfarg Village Playgroup. The judge for this year’s event will be Newfoundland singer Fergus O’Byrne.

The Saturday evening concert starts at 8.00pm in the village hall and opens with that well known group The Farg Folk. Next to take the stage will be very popular Belfast based band Craobh Rua. Edinburgh singer / songwriter Gill Bowman will delight the audience with her fine singing and John Wright with Joe Wright on fiddle and singer/ songwriter/ guitarist Pete Abbott will finish our evening off in great style. Entrance for this event is £10.00.

Sunday morning sees another singaround in the restaurant to ease you into a fine day of music and entertainment, an 11.30 start, not too early! Entry Free!  Then from 2.30 to 4 pm there is the Children’s Concert in the village hall with very popular Newfoundland duo Fergus O’Byrne & Jim Payne. Bring along the kids, big and small, and be entertained to music, song and dance. Entrance is £2.00.

Back in the restaurant at 3.00pm for the milestone 21st World Puff-a-Box championships. For 50p you can just watch but for 50p a box (maximum 3 goes) why not join the fun! The object is to blow - using your mouth – the inside of an empty matchbox the furthest distance, rules are available on request! Sponsored by Bluebell Matches. Final Fling Concert in the village hall 6.30 – 9.30 pm.  A return visit to the feast for Shetland fiddler Jenna Reid pairing up with guitarist Kevin MacKenzie gets the final concert off to a cracking start, followed by Fergus O’Byrne & Jim Payne this time for the older kids at the feast, rounding off the 28th Folk Feast there is a welcomed return of Jez Lowe & The Bad Pennies, well worth the £10.00 entrance.

The Internationally Famous Glenfarg Village Folk Club runs every Monday at 8.30 in the Terrace bar of the Glenfarg Hotel so do please come along and support live music.
