Intriguing evening of music, comedy and poetry at Hootananny
10 April 2006

Ash Dickinson and Hazel Morrison share the bill for an intriguing evening of original material, contrasting inventive poetry and comedy with uplifting, captivating music. While Ash swaps places with the sea, becomes his own stunt double and takes a trip through his girlfriend’s cardiovascular system, Hazel shifts effortlessly from a mass to a tango and on to the sexual awakening of a man at a Belgian S&M club.

A writer, poet, and comedian, Ash Dickinson developed his performance over a four year period traveling the world. He was a resident stand-up in Adelaide; hosted his own weekly poetry show in Wellington (from where he was invited to appear at the 2002 New Zealand Festival) and also performed in the USA and Canada.

Moving to Scotland in 2003, Ash has been a regular at The Stand and Big Word, as well as compering Silencio Cabaret, and playing pioneering solo shows. In August 2004 his Fringe show, Electric Dandyland, at The Canons Gait, earned rave reviews. He has performed at the Glasgow Comedy Festival, Big In Falkirk, the Leith Festival and in 2005 once again played the Edinburgh Festival. In July 2006 he is to tour Canada and play at the Winnipeg Fringe.

"Brilliantly surreal invention..fabulous poems" Edinburgh Evening News

"Clever and heartfelt riffs" Galaxy Radio, Newcastle

Solo performance from the versatile Hazel Morrison, singer and percussionist with The Bathers. Hazel combines her soaring, warm vocals with riotous piano playing and will be performing songs from her newly released debut album, Flux.

Recently Celtic Connections Best Newcomer (2006), beating 200 other competitors, she also won this title in 2003 as part of world folk band, Cantara. Her solo stylings are a melting pot of genres- an array of world influences ranging from Latin to blues to Scottish folk.

A mainstay of the Scottish music scene, Hazel has graced several albums and played at T In The Park, The Albert Hall and The Sydney Opera House, also touring with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
