17 March 2006
The Harwood Wind Trio will tour schools and community centres in Badenoch and Strathspey as part of a Live Music Now tour. The Trio will also play a concert at Talla Nan Ros, Kingussie, on 21 March 2006 (8pm, £5).
Although based in London, the group have a local connection in the area. Clarinetist Katie Lockhart is from Kingussie, where her mum is Headteacher at Kingussie Primary, and her dad teaches at Aviemore. As a younger musician, Katie would play for older people in care or at St Vincent’s Hospital, so she is really pleased to be returning to these venues.
Katie is particularly appreciative of the opportunity to return to the community that nurtured, educated and encouraged her as a musician, enabling that community to hear for themselves the advanced musical skills she has subsequently developed: it is only through Live Music Now that such an opportunity could arise.
The trio formed as students at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and also features Rachel Harwood-White (oboe) and Stuart Russell (bassoon). They perform recitals and music for events and functions, including recitals at Chichester Cathedral and Windsor Parish Church. The trio has also performed recitals as part of the Philharmonia's Martin Musical Scholarship Trust Ensemble Award Scheme including performing at the final event at the Royal Festival Hall before it closed for refurbishment.
The Harwood Wind Trio was accepted onto the Live Music Now Scheme in 2005, performing recitals for the elderly and for children with special needs. They are interested in music education, and each combines free-lance careers with teaching.
The Speyside tour is most generously funded by The Robertson Trust in their third year of support for Live Music Now in this area. The tour is extended southwards, and concludes with a performance in the National Gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh, as part of the Gallery’s Mozart celebrations.
