Soul Legend, Alexander O'Neal performs in Perth for one night only
15 March 2006

Soul legend Alexander O’Neal performs at Perth Concert Hall on Sunday 23 April 2006 for an explosive set featuring all his greatest hits.

Best known for classic soul tracks such as Criticize, Fake and Innocent, and recently appeared on BBC ONE’s reality music show Just the Two of Us, O’Neal is one of the most accomplished soul artists of all time and has been performing and recording for more than thirty years.

His musical career began in his adopted hometown of Minneapolis in the 70s, when he put together a touring band of his own and spent many years honing his live performance and developing his distinctive trademark vocals. In ’78 he joined production outfit Flyte Time, who went on to become the backing band for Minneapolis’ most famous son, Prince.

The early 80s saw O’Neal launch his solo career and his self titled debut on CBS presented him with his first UK top 10 hit Saturday Love. The album went on to sell platinum status and spawned two further hits A Broken Heart Could Mend and If You Were Here Tonight.

His second album Hearsay in 1987 was to raise his profile as a leading soul singer across the world. It produced the massive anthems Fake and Criticise and went on to sell more the 700,000 copies in the UK alone. These tracks have stood the test of time and generation and having been mixed and sampled in 90s dance culture, went on to chart and sell beyond anyone’s expectations. During this time, O’Neal embarked on a several international tours, selling out venues across Europe and the US. His somewhat racy live shows were a cause of outrage in more conservative media, with O’Neal appearing on a massive double bed, enticing a female member of the audience to join him on stage. Needless to say, pit passes at Alexander O’Neal shows were the subject of many a cat-fight!

With the platinum selling release of O’Neal’s 1991 album, All True Man and the release of his greatest hits collection in ’92 on EMI, O’Neal super fastened his place in the annals of soul music. The hits collection has sold in excess of 12 million copies worldwide.

With his personal love of the stage and live performance you will be enthralled by the show and his live band guarantee to get you on your feet. You can’t help but feel embraced by the soul god’s love ballads and meaningful heartfelt lyrics. Whether or not a bed will appear on the stage is a secret that will only be revealed on the night!
