Festival celebrates Gaelic Youth Theatre
13 February 2006

A collaboration of two of the Highlands main providers of youth activities has lead to a new festival celebrating Gaelic Youth Theatre.

Eden Court Theatre and Fèis Rois have teamed up to produce 6 short original performances in Gaelic to be performed at a day-long festival being held in Ullapool on Friday 24 February.

Funded by Bòrd na Gàidhlig, the Gaelic Youth Theatre Festival will encourage six youth groups to develop new short plays, in Gaelic, for an audience at the Macphail Centre, Ullapool.

Fèis Rois drama worker Lindsay Dunbar says “ This is a great opportunity for young Gaelic speakers to be creative with their language and combine it with their drama skills. Gaelic drama needs a festival like this to promote new talent and build confidence in acting and speaking Gaelic.”

Groups from Ullapool, Strathpeffer, Inverness, Skye and Lochalsh will take part in this brand new Festival, which hopes to continue in the future.

Eden Court’s Judith Aitken says “We are really looking forward to seeing the new work produced for the festival and hope this event will provide a successful forum for Gaelic Youth Theatre”.
