An exhibition of new black and white photographs opens at the Stables in Cromarty on Saturday 15th October. Entitled “A Turn in the Road”, it features recent work by Orkney-based photographer Alistair Peebles, whose residency with Cromarty Arts Trust earlier this year made much of the work possible.
“I am delighted to have the chance to bring this work back to Cromarty, where many of the photographs in the show were taken. The month I spent there was very constructive and allowed me to pursue some ideas that had been taking shape over the previous year.
“The area – the town and the surrounding district – was a very inspiring place to be, not least because I met so many interesting people. I am grateful to them for their hospitality, and I would like to thank the Trust for its generous support. I would also like to thank Cromarty Camera Club for the use of the darkroom.”
John Nightingale, chair of the Cromarty Arts Trust welcomed the exhibition “ We are very pleased to welcome Alistair back to Cromarty, he made many friends in the town and produced a good body of work whilst he was here. Alistair’s exhibition is the final event of another year of successful residencies and we believe that the local community of artists, children in the primary school, members of the wider public, and the artists themselves have in different ways gained something in some way from each of them.”
Alistair Peebles will be at the Stables throughout the exhibition, which runs for a week till Friday 21st, daily between 1-5pm. If you came on the Sunday afternoon you would be treated to an afternoon tea of Orcadian delights such as floury bannocks, bere bannocks and Esther's handmade oatcakes served with dollops of Netta's rhubarb jam or a slice of Orkney Cheese.
