Andrew Panton, resident Director of the National Tour of Annie Get Your Gun, and Oliver Searle, Musical Composer for the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, will be running a six-day action-packed workshop at The Skye Gathering Hall in Portree from Monday 17th to 22nd October 2005.
Described as the ‘the best experience in my life’ by the young people who took part in previous projects, this intensive workshop aims to release young people’s creativity and let them have fun whilst learning new skills. The course is open to anyone aged 11-18 regardless of their performing skills. So anybody who can play pipes, fiddle, drums or guitar or just want to act, sing or dance and have lots of fun, then this is their chance!
All Youth Music Theatre: UK pieces are created by the company – from the very first day young people will be asked to contribute ideas. From writing song lyrics to inventing dance sequences or drama characters, they create their own piece of musical theatre. Parents and friends will be invited along to the final performance on Saturday evening.
During the summer Youth Music Theatre: UK ran 11 residential workshops involving more than 400 young people from all over the UK. The courses gave young people the opportunity to experiment a range of different skills and developed some truly innovative and diverse pieces of musical theatre. Horrible Happenings in York was a horror-musical with humour inspired by the cartoons of Edward Goorey and the films of Tim Burton; Gatwick Airport – The Musical! was an amusing farce on how to handle a very unusual threat code at the airport whilst Africa Week explored African rhythms of music and what life is like for young people in that continent.
“I’m so glad I got a place in this project – it has challenged me and pushed me further than anything I’ve done before. Thank you!” (Kate, aged 16)
The workshop is non-residential and runs Monday 17th to Saturday 22nd October, 10am – 7pm. The cost is £42.50. This covers the whole week’s tuition fees, pastoral care and a small snack to have during the break (participants will have to bring their own packed lunch).
The project is sponsored by Sitekit Solutions Ltd, Portree, Isle of Skye.
