The Enchanted Forest
22 September 2005

Perthshire's legendary Enchanted Forest light and sound extravaganza takes place this year from 21 October until 6 November in the beautiful Faskally Wood near Pitlochry. Picking up on the significance of Loch Faskally within the local landscape, the 2005 event will be centred around a theme called The Water of Life.

Visitors arriving at Faskally Wood will follow an illuminated pathway down to a loch side viewing area and treated to a spectacular sound and light show, where screens floating on the loch will take viewers through a multi-layered portrayal of the water cycle. Jets of coloured water will shoot from the loch and burning cans will illuminate the water during this 20-minute display.

The entire experience will run for 60-75 minutes but visitors can take as long as they wish and are encouraged to go round more than once.

The visual feast will be supported by specially commissioned narratives and music that describe and compliment the water cycle – from clouds to the earth's surface; from streams, rivers and sea back to clouds. Snippets of local history will be added to this heady mix, with the natural history of Faskally interwoven with strands of Scottish storytelling.

After the show, the audience are free to wander along the lochside path, where they will encounter a flow of light and sound vignettes. Ranging from a fleet of brightly illuminated boats bobbing on the water to living rock faces, each vignette illustrates a different story about the water cycle.
