Aspiring writers in the Highlands and Islands have the chance to gain vital marketing advice and insights from Scotland's leading literary agent, Jenny Brown, when she presents an afternoon seminar on the difficult but vital task of writing an effective synopsis.
Jenny Brown, founder of the agency, Jenny Brown Associates, Edinburgh, will lead the event from 2pm-4pm on Saturday 1st October at the Spectrum Centre, Inverness, and will focus on the key elements and potential pitfalls for a writer in the producing a synopsis of their work as part of their marketing to agents and publishers.
Peter Urpeth, Writing Development Coordinator of event organisers HI~Arts, said:
"Many very good writers fail to get their work into print because their marketing and communication with agents and publishers simply isn't good enough. Whether you are trying to find an argent or publisher for your work, writing an effective and attention-grabbing synopsis is vital to the process and yet is often at this stage that things go wrong.
"Many writers find the process confusing and complicated simply because of a lack of experience in terms of the basics - what is the purpose of a synopsis, what information about the work should it contain, how long should it be?
"We are very grateful to Jenny for agreeing to lead this session and I would urge all writers in the region to attend, whether they are writing a novel, short story collection or non-fiction title. Jenny has for many years worked at the highest levels in Scottish publishing and her insights are an extremely valuable guide to the successful completion of a difficult process."
The seminar is free and open to all writers in the region. Full details available from the HI~Arts website: www.hi-arts.co.uk
