The Celtic Chaos Traditional Music Festival drew capacity crowds to Taliskery Distillery, Carbost, Isle of Skye at the weekend (9 & 10 September 2005) . Run by An Drochaid, Skye & Lochalsh Traditional Music Project the festival boasted two concerts filled with top class performances from a showcase of Skye & Lochalsh artists and beyond. Sun-filled skies graced the festival for the duration of the two day event as crowds arrived in droves to attend the spectacular event.
Friday night kicked off with stunning performances by a showcase of Skye & Lochalsh talent incorporating Fèis an Earraich Cèilidh Trailers, Inflatable Haggis and The Darren MacLean Band. Each performance emphasised the quality of musicians who live in the Skye & Lochalsh area. To finish the concert, Dàimh gave a powerful performance and left the audience reeling in the aisles before the late night dance to Six Foot Ginger.
Saturday featured the Fèis an Earraich Cèilidh Trailers once more and this was a real treat for everyone that attended on either Friday or Saturday night. This group of youngsters are a credit to Skye & Lochalsh and they gave a polished and very professional performance. Legendary Gaelic singer Catherine Anne MacPhee and Friends (Iain MacDonald, Charlie McKerron, Louise Mackenzie and Billy Ross) wowed the crowd with a selection of Gaelic songs and tunes. The rapturous applause from the audience after each set was clear evidence of their sheer enjoyment of the night.
Louise Mackenzie, Organiser of Celtic Chaos was delighted with the festival. “The festival was stunning this year. The concerts and dance were of exceptionally high quality and it is a great credit to the musicians from Skye & Lochalsh who took part and also to those who travelled from all over Scotland and abroad to perform. A lot of hard work is undertaken by the group of volunteers working at the festival to ensure it’s smooth operation and it is down to them that the audience and artists are looked after so well. People came from all over the world and many of them spoke to me during the course of the festival to say how pleased they were to have made the journey to capture this traditional music experience. A gentleman who attended the Saturday evening concert stated that it was the best concert he has ever attended in his life – high praise indeed.”
