A cultural experience in the uses of paper for crafts and traditional festivals will take place throughout the Highlands and Islands from July 11th – September 2nd 2005.
In 2004, Joanne B Kaar was invited by the Chaoyang University of Technology in Taiwan to be their first artist-in-residence. She spent five months there and was mentored by Ding-Way a third-year design student. He introduced Joanne to people who were involved in keeping traditional art and craft alive. Ding-Way has now chosen to do his summer vacation work experience with Joanne, here in Scotland. This will be his first time out of Taiwan. His brother is paying Ding-Way’s travel to the UK from Taiwan.
Joanne and Ding-Way will be holding a series of workshops around the Highlands and Islands held at key venues.

The Experience is partially funded by HI~Arts, the arts development agency for the Highlands and Islands.
The workshops are tailored according to the needs of each venue, and their requirements. Some are for adults only, or are for specific groups such as Womens Aid. All have a maximum of 12 participants per workshop and most workshops are one full day, 10am - 4pm, please bring your own lunch.
They will be friendly and informal but delivered in a professional and approachable manner. The Experience should be looked upon as one which would be relevant to anyone wishing to learn new skills in paper crafts and its related art forms.
