Only 7 weeks to go and Ceòlas has many of the great singers who held Glasgow in thrall for ‘Flower of the West’ coming to teach: Rona Lightfoot, Cathy Ann MacPhee, Kenna Campbell and Mairi Smith. They will share their knowledge with students, as well as delight the community at social events.
Piping is young and fresh with many of the best young pipers here to teach and share their skill: Angus MacKenzie, Finn Moore, Liam Brown if you want to play for Dance or explore Ceol Mor – here is a new generation.
Dance: Ceòlas without dance is not possible and we have Frank McConnel offering the best of Scotland and Mary Janet MacDonald the best of Cape Breton Stepdancing ably supported by Sine MacKenzie.
Fiddle music now a growing interest in Uist amongst our young people has the deep knowledge of Cape Breton style with Carl MacKenzie and West Highland style with Iain MacFarlane (Blazin Fiddles) , supported by an ex-Ceòlas student Alasdair White (Battlefield Band), fresh young talent, who will be teaching beginners.
Piano: which made it debut in 2004 returns with the youthful vibrance of Marion MacLeod from Cape Breton, supported by the experience of Doug MacPhee, also from Cape Breton.
All this will be ably directed by Iain MacDonald, himself a renowned Piper.
Ceòlas is offering , for the first time, a full week immersion programme for Gaelic Language. If you are not musical but want to learn Gaelic in a community where the language is still living please join us. Fearchar Mac Lennan , a highly regarded teacher of Gaelic will be running the weeklong course ably supported by Mary Ellen Stewart from Comunn na Gàidhlig
A lecture programme open to the community will also run during the week.
