The Castle Gallery to organise Gaelic events
22 April 2005

The Castle Gallery in Inverness is organising three weeks of Gaelic events from 10th June to 2nd July 2005.  There will be an exhibition, talks by Ruairidh MacIlleathain (in Gaelic and English), singing and clay modelling workshops for children and other community events, all held at the gallery.

Much of this will be in Gaelic but some presentations will also be in English. It is hoped that the main theme of Gaelic proverbs will be of interest to both the Gaelic and English speaking communities.

The artist, Blandine Anderson, will be making oil paintings and ceramic sculptures on the theme of Gaelic proverbs. She has been learning Gaelic for the past three years and making this work has helped to improve her Gaelic.

Sometimes the words of the proverbs are inscribed into the sculptures, for example:-

A mhic a’ chait, dam bu dual am bainne òl.
The son of the cat, born to drink milk.

Other pieces show a greater emphasis on the sculptural forms of the bases. This is because of Blandine’s interest in forms within the landscape, inspired by travelling and working in Scotland and Ireland, for example:-

Am fear a thèid san dris, feumaidh e tighinn aiste mar a fhoadas e.
He that goes among the briars, must come out as best he can.

For further information about this exhibition and associated Gaelic events please contact Denise Collins at the Castle Gallery tel 01463 729512.

Tha Gailearaidh a’ Chaistell a’ cur air bhog sreath de thachartasan eadar an 10 Ògmhìos agaus 2 luchar, 2005. Bidh taisbeanadh ann, òraidean air an toirt seachad le Ruairidh MacIlleathain (sa Ghàidlig ‘s sa Bheurla), clasaichean-seinn dha chloinn agus tachartasan coimhearsnachd eile. Bidh iad uile a’ gabhail àite sa ghàilearaidh fhèin.

Cleachdar a’ Ghàidhlig airson a’ mhòr chuid dhiubh agus Beurla airson a’ chòrr. Thathar an dòchas dum bi cuspair nan seanfhaclan Gàidhlig inntinneach, an dà cùid do mhuinntir na Gàidhlig agus do fheadhainn aig nach eil i.

Bidh an tè-ealain, Blandine Anderson, a’ cleachdadh seanfhaclan Gàidhlig mar bhonn-steidh dealbhan-ola agus samhailean a bhios I a’ cumadh le crèadh-deilbhidh.  Tha I air a bhith ag ionnsachadh na Gàidhlig o chionn trì bliadhna agus tha an obair seo air a cuideachadh gus a cuid Ghàidhlig ionnsachadh nas fheàrr.

Gu tric bidh I a’ sgrìobhadh nan seanfhaclan anns na samhailean-crèadha fhèin, mar eisimpleir:-

A mhic a’ chait, dam bu dual am bainne òl.

Bidh pìosan eile ann, ‘s iad a’ cur barrachd chudthruim air cumadh buinn nan samhailean-crèadha. Nì Blandine seo air sàilleabh na h-ùidh a tha aice ann an cumaidhean an tire fhèin ag èirigh às a cuid siubhal ann an Alba agus Èirinn. Mar eisimpleir:-

Am fear a thèid san dris, feumaidh e tighinn aiste mar a fhoadas e.

Airson barrachd fiosrachaidh mu dheidhinn an taisbeanaidh seo agus nan tachartasan na lùib cuiribh fòn gu Denise Collins aig Gailearaidh a’ Chaisteil, air 01463 729512.
