The planned tsunami disaster fundraising concert, due to be held in Clickimin Centre, Lerwick, Shetland on the 14th May, has been postponed for the time being.

One of the organisers, Davie Gardner, said there had been a number of general logistical problems which had made the successful promotion of the event increasingly difficult, but the main reason for the decision to cancel at this time was the fact that the direct emergency response fund now appears to be closed for donations, for the time being at least.

He said that the organisers understood there was a future intention for longer-term Shetland aid and support to be focused on one of the devastated islands or regions, and it was agreed that when this plan became a reality then a large fund raising concert to support that approach would be more appropriate

Davie said “It’s always disappointing to have to cancel events of this kind, but I think it would be more appropriate to wait and see how things develop with the planned new Shetland-wide approach and work in conjunction with them to promote a concert at that time. In the meantime I would sincerely like to thank all the musicians, businesses, Clickimin Centre and everyone who offered their services and support for the concert. We will be back in touch when new plans are drawn up”.
