2005 Mull of Kintyre Music Festival Plans Update
11 April 2005

Details of new venues and concerts are now firming up for this year’s Mull of Kintyre Music Festival.

The first new venue to be confirmed is the Campbeltown Picture House which will host the all seated Saturday night concert. Making a welcome appearance back to the Festival are Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, supported on the night by accomplished vocalist Julie Fowlis accompanied by Ingrid Henderson and Iain MacFarlane. This intimate new venue along with the stunning line-up promises a concert that few will want to miss.

The Festival Ceilidh Night also welcomes back the ever popular Back of the Moon band with their driving tunes and the vocals of Gillian Frame. The Ceilidh band this year are Rare Tear who have burst onto the scene, building a reputation as an energetic dance band. The instrumental line-up of box fiddle, drums and guitar prove a successful combination with vocals. Ceilidh dancing has grown in popularity since the start of the Festival and audiences have enjoyed the Friday night ceilidh more and more each year. Therefore organisers aim to increase the dancing including all ages and stages in one of Campbeltown’s most popular events.

The new Dalriada Connections concert in the Heritage Centre on Sunday 21st August aims to re-establish the links between Northern Ireland and Kintyre integrating music from both sides of the water. The Festival welcomes back Irish outfit, Scad the Beggers this year to take part in what promises to be an extraordinary concert.

The all-standing concert in the Victoria will have a much-increased capacity and will host one of the major bands on the music scene today, watch out for further details on this over the new few weeks for further developments.

The addition this year of a Festival Club in the Town Hall with an Open Stage for local and visiting talent along with the three free open air concerts means that this year’s Mull of Kintyre Music Festival will be biggest and best yet.
