Plans to restore a derelict mill on the Isle of Raasay and turn it into a heritage centre for the island have received a boost with the award of a grant of £50,000 from Forward Scotland's Community Environmental Renewal Scheme. The new centre will be used to house a collection of artefacts and documents relating to the island's history which are under the guardianship of the Raasay Trust. The new centre will also promote the wider archaeology, geology and wildlife of the island.
Also this month, the new official website for the island – www.raasay.com – is being launched. The new website was originally an initiative of the Raasay Community Association and it has been developed over the last year by a group of interested locals with funding from the European Leader+ Programme.
