Watching Bluebottles, the new play on life, death and village halls by Euan Martin and Dave Smith will received its world premiere at Miltonduff Hall on Saturday 12th March 2005.
Watching Bluebottles is a one-man show based on the life of a village hall-keeper. This new work will evoke the rich diversity of the village hall, situated at the heart of the community and it centres on the personal story of a particular hall custodian on the eve of his retirement. The piece will be relevant to audiences who regularly attend various functions in their own local halls and although not an audience-interactive piece, the hall itself will be an integral part of the performance, conjuring up the illusion of a local story told locally.
Watching Bluebottles is the latest collaboration between Highland-based writers Euan Martin and Dave Smith, who were responsible for the hugely popular “Who Bares Wins” (2004) and the award-winning comedy ceilidh murder mystery show “The Accidental Death of an Accordionist”(2001). Ron Emslie, who received such rich praise for his outstanding performance in “Who Bares Wins”, returns to work with the company in the role of the Hall-keeper. The show will be directed by Dave Smith and Alastair McDonald, with Brian Gorman Stage Manager.
The new show is a departure from previous productions where interactive comedy and quick-change farce were strong features. Watching Bluebottles aims to capture all emotions and explore universal themes and it will be especially pertinent to those with an affinity to Scotland’s rural communities.
Watching Bluebottles is very accessible and suitable for age 10+. The show will play without an interval, running time approximately 1 hour 20 minutes.
