‘Hom Bru’ will headline this year’s ‘Fiery Session’ Up-Helly-Aa day concert, promoted by Shetland Arts Trust in the Garrison Theatre on Tuesday 25th January.
The promoters believe this year’s line-up to be one of the strongest ever. Also on the bill will be ‘Da Fustra’, who recently won the Dance Band of the Year award at the Scottish Traditional Music Awards in Edinburgh; young vocalist Jillian Isbister, who’s been attracting a great deal of acclaim, not to mention national radio airplay; fiddle group ‘Maddrim’ who recently headlined the Lemon Tree Hogmanay event in Aberdeen; Shetland Young Fiddler of the Year, Lyn Anderson and fiddler Gemma Donald who won a number of national fiddle awards last year.
There will also be a visit from Junior Jarl Josh Nicolson and his squad and an audio visual history of the Up-Helly-Aa festival screened throughout the concert.
Shetland Art’s Trust Music Development Officer Davie Gardner said “The ‘Fiery Sessions’ have now become an annual and very popular fixture on the local music calendar and, hopefully for many, an integral part of the festival day itself. It offers everyone, especially the many visitors who come to Shetland for the festival, something enjoyable to do during what is usually the quieter part of day and give us the opportunity to promote just some of the fine music created in Shetland to a wider market”.
Tickets for the concert, priced £8 and £5 concession (OAP’s, registered disabled and under 16’s) will go on sale from Islesburgh House from 10am until mid-day on Up-Helly-Aa morning. Any unsold tickets will be available when the doors open at the Garrison Theatre at 1pm. The concert itself starts at 2pm and runs till approximately 4.30.
Anyone who wishes to attend the concert is advised to get their tickets early due to the normally high demand.
