A large fund raising concert is being planned in Shetland to raise funds toward the Tsunami Disaster Appeal.
The concert is likely to be held in the Clickimin Centre, Lerwick on Saturday the 14th May this year, although full details have yet to be finalised. It is also hoped that a similar concert may be staged in Orkney on the same day, and the two events linked together in some form.
One of the organisers, Davie Gardner of Shetland Arts Trust said “We’ve all witnessed the terrible and shocking events of the past few weeks and feel compelled to do something positive to help in some small way. Given the local resources and talent we have available, a large fund-raising concert seems to be the obvious way of doing this. We have lots of ideas but few specific details at the moment. It is however planned to be BIG, hopefully an all-day event with loads of additional fund raising schemes and, given the interest intimated so far, perhaps a community wide event with the Lerwick concert simply forming the hub of a Shetland-wide approach”.
The organisers recognise that although the concert is still some time off, it will be vitally important to raise funds toward the appeal for many months to come, especially after it is no longer headline news. Davie went “The time scale will also hopefully allow us to put together something very special indeed, which could potentially raise much more toward the appeal than a quickly arranged concert could achieve”
