Sound of the Didgeridoo comes to Carrbridge
14 December 2004

The sound of the didgeridoo comes to Carrbridge on Saturday December 18 2004 with a special workshop session being  hosted by Australian virtuoso, Andrew Langford.

Andrew, who is on a mini whistle stop tour of Europe with performances in Frankfurt as well as the Australian  Embassy in Paris, is one of Australia's top didgeridoo masters.

As well as performing with Aboriginal musicians including the boys from the Warumpi Band, Andrew has also mixed his didge with many other instruments of the world. He has played with the guitarists John Williams, John Williamson and Paco Pena and with the  Japanese pianist, Haneda.  He has also recorded four albums:  ' Echoes in the Dust' (with Ted Egan), 'Jedidge',  'Didgeridoo Tracks' and 'The Sounds of Starlight  Theatre'.  He has just finished recording a new  album and has launched his own book.

Andrew's visit to Scotland is being hosted by Glasgow-based musician Paul Lamb who has dedicated his life to playing and studying the didgeridoo and Grantown musician, John Jackson who both plays and makes his own instruments.

"It is a rare opportunity for people to have the chance to learn a little bit more about the didgeridoo as well as play alongside one of Australia's top performers," said John who each  year for the past ten years has run workshop sessions with Australian  Paul  Lamb at the annual Celtic Connections showcase festival held in Glasgow. Although the sessions at Carrbridge Village Hall on Saturday afternoon are for more experienced players,  the morning workshops are for complete beginners. John added: "The idea is that everyone is invited to just come along and have a go - and it doesn't  matter if they haven't got an instrument, we'll provide one for them."

The workshops run from 11am - 1pm  for children from primary five upwards and adults with masterclasses for more  experienced players from 2pm - 4pm.

Andrew's visit to Carrbridge is being  supported by Carrbridge Community Arts.
