Moray Council’s youth dance initiative (Dancedaze) is now one year old and continuing to grow. Our aim is to give all young people access to dance in their own area. However we can’t do this on our own and that’s why we need you! Our eventual aim is to have a moray wide network of youth dance groups feeding into One Step Beyond, Moray’s Youth Dance Company.
Moray Council’s Youth Dance Development Worker is offering training to people interested in becoming a youth dance leader in the community. We are looking for enthusiastic and energetic people, who have some movement experience, to participate in this exciting new course.
Dancedaze has 3 established Youth Dance Companies and 2 on the way!! Sessions are led by Jeni MacRae, Youth Dance Development Worker, and visiting teachers, companies and choreographers. All the companies are open to boys and girls aged 13 to 18 years old.
The aim of One Step Beyond is to give young people in Moray the opportunity to learn different dance techniques, choreography skills and performance opportunities. The main dance styles we look at are street, break, jazz and contemporary.
The training course will begin in January 2005 and cover all aspects of planning and carrying out dance workshops for young people. It is open to people 16 years and over who have some dance or movement experience. Throughout the course you will work with some of Scotland’s leading dance artists: Allan Irvine of Dancebase, Edinburgh and Freshmess dance company, Rachel Smith, Education Officer with Scottish Dance Theatre and Karl Jay-Lewin, performer and choreographer with Body Surf Uk. All sessions will contain both practical and theory based learning.
