The Waterboys, one of the most influential British bands of the last two decades, are set to play the Clickimin Centre in Lerwick on December the 2nd in a concert promoted by Shetland Arts Trust. The acoustic based gig is part of a full UK and Irish tour, which sees fiddler Steve Wickham, who featured prominently on their ‘Fisherman’s Blues’ album, rejoining the band.
The band originally formed in 1983 and the firebrand merging of rock and folk influenced music on their first three albums ‘The Waterboys’, A Pagan Place and This is the Sea, immediately attracted a wide audience and gained them international acclaim, not to mention a fair deal of chart success, which peaked with the release of the classic single ‘The Whole of the Moon’.
Further success followed with the Irish influenced ‘Fisheman’s Blues album and a string of well-received albums throughout the 90’s, culminating in their most recent release ‘Universal Hall’ which attracted universal acclaim across the international music press, catapulting the band back to prominence again.
Always an acoustic based band at heart, and regular festival favourites, their recent tours have attracted rave reviews from audiences and critics alike, so the Lerwick gig promises to be “….something special indeed” according to Arts Trust Music Development Officer Davie Gardner.
Tickets for the concert go on sale from the Clickimin Centre reception on Monday 8th November at 9am priced £15.
