HEBRIDES ENSEMBLE is part of TUNE UP – a dynamic season of music tours from September 2004 to August 2005, supported by the Scottish Arts Council, to take some of the best Scottish and International musical talent to the places that other tours don't reach.
An unmissable opportunity to hear Hebrides Ensemble, Scotland’s foremost classical chamber group, embarking on an exciting new adventure. This tour takes the Ensemble to three highland venues that it has not previously visited – Balnain House, Inverness, Macphail Centre, Ullapool and the stunning surroundings of Eilean Donan Castle on the Kyle of Lochalsh. The programme will also be performed at the Tolbooth, Stirling the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen and the atmospheric surroundings of Greyfriar’s Kirk, Edinburgh - venues more familiar with the Ensemble’s work.
The Music:
The programme is a typically bold and unorthodox mix featuring music by British Composers. Music by the young Scot, Anna Meredith will be performed alongside the more mature contemporary voices of George Benjamin and James MacMillan. MacMillan’s Tuireadh is a deeply passionate lament dedicated to victims of the Pipa Alpha disaster. Herbert Howells’ warm and attractive Rhapsodic Quintet will feature alongside the music of his contemporary Benjamin Britten who composed his showpiece Quartettino when he was just nineteen.
The programme will appeal to those familiar with chamber music and those looking for something new, an opportunity to hear something of the recent evolution of British Music.
