Three Arran poets are taking to the island road this October 7th to celebrate National Poetry Day.
In a whistle stop tour that will last the full day, Alison Prince, Jason Watts and Tim Pomeroy hope to bring living poetry to every community on the island. Using the primary schools as the reading venues members of each village along with the children are invited to attend the live readings. In order to maintain their tight schedule these readings will consist of about six to nine poems and it is hoped that the readings will stimulate other island poets both old and young to think further about poetry and perhaps access the poet within themselves. The theme of this year’s National Poetry Day is ‘Food’.
The day will culminate in a free evening event in Brodick Hall starting at 8pm. This will be laid out like a coffee shop or wine bar and will evoke a much more relaxed opportunity to listen to a wider selection of the poets’ works than it is possible to read during the day. Further to that, there might even be an opportunity for members of the public to bring along their own work to read alongside the organisers.
Members of the public can contact their local school to find out when the poets will be arriving or telephone Tim Pomeroy on 01770 600287.
