Blazin’ in Beauly (11-15 October) is the musical extravaganza, started by the band Blazin’ Fiddles in the historic village of Beauly, 15 miles west of Inverness. With the aim of being “much more than a fiddle school” the intention of the weeklong course is to immerse people in the music of the Highlands and Islands. Participants get the chance to work with world class performers, but instruction is only a part of the week – the sessions, the talks, the concerts and the craic all add up to make Blazin’ in Beauly THE Fiddle School event in the UK.
As well as Blazers Bruce MacGregor, Catriona Macdonald, Aidan O’Rourke, Allan Henderson and Andy Thorburn this year we have some real top quality tutors. Guest Fiddlers Annbjorb Lien from Norway and Liz Doherty from Ireland. Donald Shaw from Capercaillie will lead the group work sessions, James MacIntosh of Shooglnifty will take percussion and Christine Hanson will be putting the groove of the cello into Scottish music.
During the week there will two public concerts. Wednesday 13 October will have Guest Tutors performing along with some great local talent and Friday 15 October will see Blazin’ Fiddles performing, along with some surprise guests followed by a dance. Tickets for these concerts will be available in due course at Morison’s of Beauly and Hotananny’s in Inverness. BBC Radio Scotland’s Travelling Folk will be coming to record two of the concerts, which will be aired the following week.
