Angus and Ruaridh originally met in the Summer of 2000, whilst working in the traditional music scene. Having discovered that they shared an appreciation of traditional, classical and contemporary music, the pair decided to perform as a duo, known simply as Angus Lyon & Ruaridh Campbell, to perform the beautiful traditional music that Scotland has to offer.
Their work covers every aspect of traditional melodies: from jigs, reels and strathspeys, to slow airs, waltzes and everything in between. Angus and Ruaridh also compose and perform much of their own music, which draws influence from both the traditional music of their upbringing and the rich and diverse music of today. Influences from varied forms of contemporary music can be heard in their unique style.
The Islay/Jura series of performances is the second of four similar tours, which also takes Live Music Now! to Mull, Colonsay, Gigha and south Kintyre.
All events are funded by the Scottish Executive's Better Neighbourhood Services Fund and Argyll and the Islands Community Economic Development Programme, which has been awarded through Argyll and the Islands Enterprise.
The Community Economic Development Programme is a scheme part funded by the European Structural Funds through the Highlands and Islands Special Transitional Programme 2000-2006.
Live Music Now was founded by Yehudi Menuhin in 1977 with the two-fold aim of taking live music of high quality to everyone in our communities while simultaneously offering young professional musicians the invaluable opportunity of performing at the outset of their careers. www.livemusicnow.org
