World touring Music Educator to visit the Highlands

HI~Arts, Artlink Highland and NESTA have combined funding for Doug Goodkin, music educator and proponent of Orff Sculwerk to come to the Highlands in the first week of March 2004.

Alpha Munro, musician and educator from Ross and Cromarty asked Doug if he could “stop by” on his tour round the world, between Iceland and Rome. Alpha has a fellowship with NESTA and will be combining her research with Doug’s workshops.

Doug has worked and studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music for 30 years and delivers a hands-on approach to understanding music and its relevance to child development and education. He has worked with children from 3 to 18 years for over 20 years, and is particularly known for his innovative application to jazz, multi-cultural and traditional music.

The workshops are open to artists, teachers and childcare workers and are as follows:

Monday 1 March Brora Community Centre 10.00-3.15pm
Free – lunch is provided

Tuesday 2 March Perrins Alness – 6.30-9.30pm
£5 Fee

Wednesday 3 March Hilton Community Centre -10-3.15pm
Free –lunch is provided
