The Isle of Tiree's historical society –
An Iodhlann – is planning to stage
a major exhibition entitiled A’ Bhuain (The Harvest) in the summer of 2006.
There are estimated to be about 38,000 people around the world of Tiree descent,
and the exhibition will focus on the stories of these emigrants and their
families.
To coincide with the event, a community Gathering involving
Tiree's residents, businesses and organisations is also planned for the third
week in May 2006. The Tiree Gathering would include ceilidhs, lectures, tours,
regattas, and other festivals on the island.
A feasibility study is
currently underway to assess the viability of the project and seek to access and
secure funding for a Project Officer to work from autumn 2004 to summer 2006.
