Saturday June 12th....Venue: The Liquid Rooms, Edinburgh. Dionyssus had the
fortunate position of being the headlining act, but despite running a bus from
Dingwall/Inverness and selling 130+ tickets, Dionyssus were told just before
going onstage that 2 other bands had sold more tickets than themselves. With
this said, the Inverness Rock Gods pledged to just enjoy themselves and put on a
good show all the same.
A good show being an understatement, they kicked
off their set with new EP track, Freestyle, to their sea of 'dionyssus
t-shirt bearing' fans. Rory Hutcheson decided to abandon the legendary dress
code that the band follow - all black shirts- and won the compere's award for
best topless male 2004 - the ladies didn't seem too offended either. The crowd
enjoyed a ripping set which included Robin and Rory running frantically all over
the stage, George throwing his equipment about and playing his keyboard behind
his back and the ever-exciting Greg crowd - surfing during the finale number of
'Kings of the Jungle'. With the audience sky-high in estactic frenzy, the
compere took a while to quieten them down and count the votes- a difficult task
when almost the whole venue are chanting "WIN WIN WIN WIN...." and given
the amount of people that there were to count.
When the announcement of
the results came, Dionyssus were just delighted that they had probably played
their best gig to date and did not expect to get a place, even as runners up.
They were right to assume that they would not be runners up, but were truly
grateful to be proved wrong at the prospect of winning the contest. Seconds
after the compere announced that Dionyssus had won and were to go through to the
Scottish final at the Carling Academy, Glasgow, the five of them raced onstage
to a deafening applause from the crowd who also waited for the band to come out
the back door to cheer them on half way down Edinburgh's Grassmarket. Given that
the band were nearly refused entry to the contest and have now beaten nearly 30
Edinburgh-based contenders, Dionyssus were thoroughly delighted with the outcome
and now look forward to performing to a panel of record scouts from a selction
of companies including the contest endorsers, Sony/Columbia.
Please look
out for details of their gig at the Carling Academy, as Dionyssus will be
running another bus for anyone who would like to support them there also.
Dionyssus are also pleased to announce that their new EP 'Ram It!' is on its way
to you very shortly.
