Pitlochry Festival Theatre Welcomes Discussions Over New Funding

Pitlochry Festival Theatre (PFT) learned today that the Scottish Arts Council (SAC) intends to convene a series of meetings with current and potential funders to discuss an entirely new funding arrangement for PFT in the future.

Two Free Family Days in Sutherland for the Long Weekend

Two delightful visitor centres in Lairg and Brora, open to the public over the holiday weekend, with activities for the whole family. The Highland Council’s Community Learning and Leisure Service invites residents and visitors alike to the newly revamped Ferrycroft Visitor Centre in Lairg for a Special Open Day on Saturday 3rd May and to Brora Heritage Centre which opens for the season on the Monday 5th May.

Local artist, Joanne B Kaar has been inspired by the history of her own village, Dunnet, on Dunnet Head, Caithness, to create new artwork. During 2008, she will be focusing her research on the living history museum of Mary-Ann’s cottage, a croft house built in the 1850’s by Mary-Ann’s grandfather.

Highlands Open Studios 2008

From May 31st – June 8th this year, artists all over the Highlands will throw open their doors and invite you in to have a look behind the scenes of a busy artist’s studio. Painters, printmakers, makers of woollen, wooden, stone, clay, delicate and dramatic objects will welcome in the public to see them at work. It’s a rare opportunity to enjoy a visit and gain an insight into the workings of a Highland Artist.

The celebration of the amazing decorative cast ironwork will go on display at Museum nan Eilean from April 9 in a joint project between Historic Scotland and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.
